What makes Amatsu different?

Amatsu is an elegant holistic therapy that works in quiet harmony with your body. The approach is exceptionally gentle, yet profoundly effective, supporting deep and lasting change without force. Each session is guided by your body’s own innate intelligence, creating a highly personalised and intuitive experience.

There is no cracking or invasive manipulation. Instead, Amatsu subtly identifies and releases restrictions held throughout the body, restoring balance and ease at every level. By treating the body as an integrated whole, this therapy moves beyond symptoms to support alignment from head to toe, through to your nervous system.

Every session concludes with a sense of recalibration and refined balance, finishing with a gently aligned pelvis to support fluid movement, stability, and ongoing wellbeing long after the session has ended.

What is Amatsu?

The Essence of Amatsu

Amatsu is a refined Japanese soft tissue therapy that harmoniously blends Eastern wisdom with Western scientific understanding. By gently identifying the root cause of pain, this therapy supports the body as an integrated whole, rather than treating isolated symptoms, allowing balance and ease to be naturally restored.

A Subtle Yet Profound Experience

Amatsu is a light-touch, non-invasive therapy that works with the musculoskeletal system, including bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. The foundation that supports posture, movement, and vitality. Its delicate approach creates a quiet ripple through all layers of the body, including the visceral layers, where deep seated tension and restriction are often held.

Restoring Natural Harmony

Through the gentle application of Taijutsu principles, I support the body to:
  • Reawaken effortless, natural movement
  • Restore biotensegrity and whole-body balance
  • Ease pain and discomfort
  • Encourage the body’s inherent capacity for self-healing

What to Wear for Your Amatsu Session

Amatsu is a fully clothed therapy. You will simply be asked to remove your shoes, belt, and watch before the session begins.

To ensure your comfort and allow the treatment to flow seamlessly, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement and allows gentle access to the body. I recommend avoiding jeans, hooded garments, or heavily embroidered tops. Soft, flexible clothing such as long-sleeved tops and tracksuit style bottoms are ideal.

*** Please bring along a bottle of water and a clean pair of socks with you, as Amatsu works with the whole body, including the feet.

Your First Appointment

Your first Amatsu session begins with a gentle and respectful conversation about your medical history. Understanding past and present injuries helps reveal how your body has adapted over time and ensures the session is tailored safely and thoughtfully to you.

This is followed by a calm, non-invasive assessment that allows me to understand your body as a whole. By observing movement, posture, and subtle patterns within the musculoskeletal system and acupuncture meridians, I can identify areas that may benefit from support.

This process allows your body to feel heard and guided, encouraging natural balance, ease, and your body’s own ability to heal itself.

After Your Amatsu Session

Each person’s response to Amatsu is unique. Some feel immediately energised, deeply relaxed, or gently tired as their body integrates the work. Others may not notice changes until a few days later, as subtle adjustments occur at a structural and neurological level.

Amatsu works with the body’s natural alignment, releasing restrictions in Amatsu works by encouraging the body’s natural alignment, releasing restrictions in muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. Even while you rest fully clothed on the treatment table, your body is recalibrating, improving movement patterns, easing tension, and supporting its own healing processes.

It’s normal for the effects to unfold gradually, and you may suddenly notice that discomfort has eased, posture feels lighter, or movement is easier. Sometimes without even realising the change was happening.

To support optimal results, I recommend drinking plenty of water and refraining from caffeine and alcohol. Please avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 24 hours, allowing your body the time it needs to gently settle into its newly realigned form and restore balance.

About Me
profile-picture

Originally trained as a project architect, I spent many years working in the fast paced private sector, where long hours and physical strain gradually impacted my health. Following a diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and unwilling to pursue invasive interventions, I began searching for a more holistic solution, a journey that led me to Amatsu Therapy.

Amatsu’s whole-body approach brought profound relief and restored balance, not only alleviating symptoms but transforming how I understood wellbeing. Inspired by this experience, I retrained as an Amatsu practitioner, dedicating my work to helping others reconnect with their body’s innate capacity for healing. By releasing tension, restoring movement, and creating space for the body to restore ease and alignment.

In 2025, I extended this work to the NHS, becoming the first practitioner to introduce Amatsu Therapy in this setting. Bringing a gentle, restorative therapy to those most in need has been both humbling and deeply rewarding, and continues to shape my purpose-driven approach to wellness.

Initial Consultation

What to Expect

Your first appointment begins with a comprehensive review of your medical history, allowing for a clear understanding of how your body has adapted to both past and present injuries. Your lifestyle, daily habits, and hobbies will also be thoughtfully considered to ensure a fully personalised approach.

An assessment will then be carried out to evaluate your posture, movement patterns, and musculoskeletal range. This enables a deeper insight into areas of imbalance, restriction, or compensation within the body.

Your session will include a range of the following:
  • In-depth review of medical history
  • Postural analysis
  • Assessment of muscle range and function
  • Orthopaedic testing
  • Kinesiological muscle testing
  • Evaluation of acupuncture points

Your consultation concludes with a restorative Amatsu session, designed to support balance, alignment, and the body’s natural ability to heal.

Follow Up

What to Expect

Follow-up appointments are recommended to gently support and enhance your body’s natural self-healing process. True, lasting healing unfolds over time, symptoms rarely resolve overnight. Each session allows your body the space it needs to adapt, integrate, and stabilise its newly balanced state following an Amatsu treatment.

These sessions build upon your initial consultation, refining alignment and encouraging deeper, more sustainable results.

Your session will include:
  • Comprehensive whole-body assessment
  • Soft tissue release
  • Soft tissue mobilisation
  • Ligament and muscle rebalancing using Kinetic Kyushu
  • Anma / Seitai techniques

Each follow-up is tailored to your body’s ongoing needs, promoting harmony, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of Amatsu sessions recommended is entirely individual, guided by the nature of your concern and how your body responds to treatment. Longstanding or chronic issues require time and patience, true healing cannot be rushed. Amatsu gently supports this natural process, allowing your body to restore balance while you relax deeply on the couch.

To optimise long-term results and encourage lasting, natural healing, a minimum of six weekly sessions spaced one week apart is advised. This structured approach allows your body the continuity it needs to adapt, integrate, and rebalance.

Many clients choose to continue with regular maintenance sessions even after symptoms have eased, supporting ongoing self-healing while preserving mobility, balance, and overall wellbeing.
